Privacy notice
This notice covers the Dad Shift and Mom Shift apps and this website. In short: what you record stays on your phone, unless you switch something on yourself. The only personal data we handle ourselves is what reaches us when you visit this website or write to us.

Who is responsible
The person responsible for the personal data described here (the “data controller”) is Tom Van De Putte, who publishes Dad Shift, Mom Shift and this website as an individual in Belgium.
- Name: Tom Van De Putte
- Email: support@momanddadshift.com
We have not appointed a data protection officer, because the law does not require one for what we do. Write to the address above with any privacy question. The legal notice has the same details.
On your phone by default
The apps keep every log, note, photo and setting in a database on your device. We have no server and no account system, so there is nowhere for it to go. Nothing leaves the phone unless you switch on iCloud sync, share a baby with the other parent or switch on the weather yourself. We do not receive any of it and have no way to see it.
Health information
What you record can include health information about your baby and about the mother: feeds, sleep, weight, temperature, medicines, vaccines, recovery notes, check-ins. Data protection law treats health data as a special category. We do not receive it. The app processes it on your device, for you alone, and, only if you choose, in your own iCloud (see below). Keeping records about your own family for your own use is a personal or household activity (Article 2(2)(c) of the GDPR).
Where the apps copy this information to your iCloud, or share it with the other parent, they do so because you switched sync on or accepted the sharing. That is your explicit choice, and you can reverse it at any time.
Please do not put health details in emails to us. We never need them to help you. The guidance in the apps is general information, not medical advice; see the terms.
If you switch on iCloud sync
Your records and photos are copied to your own private iCloud database, under your Apple Account, using Apple's CloudKit. We never see them and have no way to read them. Apple runs iCloud for you, under your agreement with Apple and Apple's privacy policy. Switch sync off and nothing new is sent, but what is already in iCloud stays until you delete it.
When the other phone needs to catch up, Apple's push notification service wakes it. That push carries no content.
If you share a baby with the other parent
Sharing a baby from Settings shares that baby's records, the money plan included, with the other parent's Apple Account, through iCloud. They see what you record for that baby and you see what they record, including which pass, if any, covers the baby and until when. Your own check-ins and private notes are not shared; they stay yours. You choose whom to invite, and Apple's sharing sheet lets you stop sharing.
If you switch on the weather
To say what the baby should wear, the app asks Apple Weather (WeatherKit) for the temperature where you are. It is off until you switch it on, and iOS asks your permission for your approximate location first. The app sends an approximate location, never a precise one, and nothing about you or the baby. As with any request over the internet, Apple sees the connection's IP address; Apple says it does not tie WeatherKit location to your identity. The reading is kept in memory only. Switch the weather off in Settings and nothing more is sent.
Siri, Face ID, notifications and photos
- Siri: if you log by voice, Apple processes what you say under Apple's own privacy policy. The app receives only the action to take, such as “log a feed”.
- Face ID: the privacy lock uses iOS. The app learns only whether you unlocked, never your face data.
- Notifications: reminders are scheduled on your phone. None are sent from a server.
- Photos: photos you take or pick are stored in the app on your device, and in your iCloud if sync is on.
Purchases
Purchases go through the App Store. Apple handles payment; we receive no card details, name or address, and Apple reports sales to us in totals that do not identify you. The apps check on your device that a purchase is valid.
No analytics, no ads, no tracking
The apps contain no third-party analytics, advertising or tracking libraries. They do not know how you use them, they build no profile of you, and nothing is sold or shared with advertisers. No decision about you is made by automated means.
This website and your emails
This site sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from other companies: no external fonts, scripts or trackers. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which receives each visitor's IP address and the technical details of the request (the page asked for, the browser, the time) in order to deliver the pages and protect them from attacks. We do not use these to identify anyone.
If you email support@momanddadshift.com, Cloudflare's email routing service passes the message on to the mailbox of the person responsible, held with the email provider listed under “Who receives it”. We receive your email address, your name if it appears in it, and what your message and any attachment say. We use them only to reply to you.
You are not obliged to give us any personal data. If you do not write to us, the only data involved is the technical data of visiting a website.
Why we use personal data, and on what basis
- Delivering and protecting this website. Data: your IP address and the technical details of your request. Basis: our legitimate interest in running a website that works and is protected from attacks (Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR).
- Answering your emails and requests. Data: your email address, your name if you give it, your message. Basis: our legitimate interest in replying to the people who write to us (Article 6(1)(f)) and, when you write about something you bought, performing our contract with you (Article 6(1)(b)).
- Meeting legal obligations, such as answering a request about your rights or keeping records the law requires. Basis: Article 6(1)(c).
- iCloud sync, sharing a baby and the weather. These run in the apps on your device and with Apple, at your request, not with us. To the extent the law makes us responsible for them, the basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) and, for health data, Article 9(2)(a)), which you give by switching the feature on or accepting the sharing and can withdraw at any time by switching it off. Withdrawing does not affect what happened before.
We do not use personal data for advertising or profiling, and we do not sell it.
Who receives it
- Cloudflare, Inc. hosts this website and routes the emails sent to support. It acts on our behalf and receives visitors' IP addresses and the emails you send. Cloudflare's own privacy policy describes what it does to run and protect its network.
- Our email provider, which holds the mailbox where forwarded emails arrive.
- Apple provides the App Store, iCloud and CloudKit, Apple Weather, Siri and push notifications directly to you, under your agreement with Apple and Apple's privacy policy. We have no access to what is in your iCloud.
- Authorities and courts, only when the law requires us to give them something.
Nobody else receives your personal data from us. We sell it to no one.
Transfers outside the European Economic Area
Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States and serves this website from data centers around the world. It takes part in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, which the European Commission has recognized as ensuring an adequate level of protection (decision of 10 July 2023); its data processing terms also include the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. You can ask us for a copy of these safeguards.
Apple runs iCloud, Apple Weather, the App Store and push notifications worldwide, under its own terms and privacy policy.
How long we keep it
- Emails to support: as long as it takes to answer you and handle follow-up questions, then we delete them, in any case within 12 months of the last message about the matter, unless the law requires us to keep something longer or a dispute is open.
- Website request data: kept by Cloudflare for the periods in its own policy. We keep none of our own.
- Data in the apps: on your phone until you delete it or delete the app, and in your iCloud until you delete it from there.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- ask whether we hold personal data about you, and get a copy (access);
- have inaccurate data corrected (rectification);
- have your data deleted (erasure);
- have its use restricted while a question is settled (restriction);
- receive the data you gave us in a common format (portability);
- object to processing based on our legitimate interest;
- withdraw a consent you gave, at any time.
For what the apps keep on your phone and in your iCloud, you use these rights yourself, in the apps and in iCloud: change or delete any entry, export everything in one file with Backup in Settings, delete everything with Delete all data in Settings. We cannot look up or change that data, because we cannot see it.
For the emails and website data we do hold, write to support@momanddadshift.com. We answer within one month, free of charge; if a request is complex we may extend that by up to two months and will tell you why. We may ask you to confirm that you are the person who wrote.
Complaints
If you think we handle your personal data wrongly, please write to us first, and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, in particular in the country where you live or work:
- Belgium (where we are based): Gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit (GBA) / Autorité de protection des données (APD), Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels, contact@apd-gba.be, www.gegevensbeschermingsautoriteit.be
- Netherlands: Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (AP), www.autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl
- France: Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés (CNIL), www.cnil.fr
- Canada: Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, www.priv.gc.ca
- Québec: Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec (CAI), www.cai.gouv.qc.ca
- Elsewhere in the EU: the list of data protection authorities kept by the European Data Protection Board.
Canada and Québec
If you live in Canada, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, in Québec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as amended by Law 25, apply to the personal information we hold: emails sent to us and website request data. We do not hold what the apps keep on your phone and in your iCloud.
The person in charge of the protection of personal information is:
- Tom Van De Putte
- Email: support@momanddadshift.com
You may ask for access to your personal information and for its correction, and withdraw a consent you gave. Where the law provides for it, you may also ask for the computerized personal information collected from you to be given to you in a structured, commonly used technological format. This website uses no technology that identifies, locates or profiles you.
The personal information we hold is handled by Cloudflare and our email provider, which may store or process it outside Québec, including in the United States. We pass it to them only to run this website and to receive your emails. If we do not answer you to your satisfaction, you can complain to the Commission d'accès à l'information du Québec or to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (see Complaints above).
Children
The apps and this website are for parents and are not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The records you keep about your baby stay on your devices and in your own iCloud; we hold no information about your child.
Security
We run no server that holds your records. In the apps, data sits in your phone's protected storage, and the privacy lock (Face ID or your passcode) is on by default when your phone has one set up. This website is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). If a breach of the personal data we hold ever put your rights at risk, we would tell you and the authority, as the law requires.
Backups and deleting your data
Backup, in Settings, puts every log, note and photo in one file that you keep wherever you choose. Delete all data, in Settings, removes everything from the phone immediately. If you used iCloud sync, you can remove what is in iCloud from your iPhone's Settings, under your name, iCloud, Manage Storage.
Changes
If this notice changes, the new version is posted here with a new date. A change that sends anything new off your phone will be one you switch on yourself.
